About Buddha Chinnarat

Buddha Chinnarat is a renowned and highly revered Buddha statue in Thailand. It’s considered one of the most beautiful and classic Buddha figures in the country and is often compared to the Emerald Buddha.

The exact date of the Buddha Chinnarat statue’s creation remains somewhat shrouded in mystery, with various theories and legends circulating around its origins. However, the most widely accepted belief places its creation during the Sukhothai period, specifically around the 14th century.

The statue is believed to have been commissioned by King Lithai, one of the most influential rulers of the Sukhothai Kingdom. The statue was likely created as a symbol of King Lithai’s devotion to Buddhism and as a testament to the artistic prowess of his kingdom.

Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat is the temple associated with Buddha Chinnarat. This temple is located in Phitsanulok, Northern Thailand, and is considered one of the most important Buddhist sites in the country. The temple’s main vihara houses the big statue.
