At the age of 20, he became seriously ill and had to undergo treatment for five years. At the age of 25, he was ordained as a monk at Wat Pho (Nong Khwai) on March 1, 1945 (2488 B.E.), with Chao Athikan Intha Ariyo of Wat Thao Bunruang as the preceptor, Phra Athikan Oat Apichayo of Wat Tongkai as the ordination teacher, and Phra Athikan Intha Sutthiko of Wat Wutthirart (Ban Fon) as the instructor. He was given the monastic name “Yatiko.”
