If you were to consult with experts on the subject of powerful Pidta amulets, Luang Phu Iam of Wat Saphan Sung would undoubtedly be mentioned as a leading figure, followed by his lineage of Wat Saphan Sung; LP Klin, LP Thongsuk, and Luangta Waas. So Wat Saphan Sung is really identic with powerful Pidta amulets.

History of Phra Pidta Amulets

Luang Pu Iam began creating Phra Pidta around the year 1899 (BE 2420s). He likely continued to create them over the years, with the final batch possibly being the “Chan Mak” series.

Luang Pu Klin succeeded Luang Pu Iam as the abbot. Luang Pu Klin was not very keen on creating sacred objects, focusing more on Dhamma practice. Each year, he would only inscribe nine takruts (protective amulets) on Thursdays. It is said that he created Phra Pidta when he was 72 years old, in 1946 (BE 2489), known as the “Saeyid” batch. When his disciples were molding the amulets, he mentioned that creating Phra Pidta consumed a lot of sacred powder. He therefore instructed them to mold Lamphun-style amulets, which used less powder, resulting in a very limited number of Phra Pidta amulets.

Luang Pu Thongsuk became the abbot after Luang Pu Klin. During his time, Wat Saphan Sung was bustling with people from various places. It was said that he had to welcome guests until 9 or 10 PM, sometimes even until midnight. He created the most molds of Phra Pidta, and his amulets were more frequently counterfeited than those of Luang Pu Iam. At that time, Most of the Phra Pidta amulets at the temple had some of Luang Pu Iam’s sacred powder mixed in nearly every batch.

Luang Ta Was started creating Phra Pidta after Luang Pu Thongsuk passed away. During that time, Wat Saphan Sung was in decline. As Luang Ta Was diligently created Phra Pidta and takrut, the temple gradually revived. More people began talking about Phra Pidta and takrut, and until now, Luang Ta Was has become one of the top revered monks in Nonthaburi Province. His Phra Pidta amulets are highly sought after for worship or collection because they are still reasonably priced, especially those from the early periods.

Phra Ajahn Khao, the current abbot, has also created several batches of Phra Pidta. He has used the old sacred powder from the temple in every batch and conducts a consecration ceremony each time.
