This is the first generation of the side-facing coin of Luang Phor Maha Jerm, Wat Sa Mongkhon, Kamphaeng Saen District, Nakhon Pathom Province. This oval-shaped amulet coin of Luang Phor Maha Jerm is considered the ultimate in newly created amulets, renowned for its ‘Maha Ud’ (invincibility) power. Belonging to the ‘Pannya Baramee’ series, it was created in 2006 on the occasion of his 90th birthday. It was made only once and for the last time, with Luang Phor’s permission.
The consecration ceremony (Buddhapisek) took place at the Ubosot of Wat Sa Mongkhon, Sa Si Mum Subdistrict, Nakhon Pathom Province, with Luang Pu Maha Jerm presiding over the candle-lighting and meditation, alongside other renowned monks from the forest tradition, such as Luang Phor Maha Jerm of Wat Sa Mongkhon, Nakhon Pathom; Luangphor Thon of Wat Sri Abhaiwan, Loei Province; Luangphor Phaew Pawaro of Wat Kamphaeng Saen, Nakhon Pathom; Luang Phor Chanram Khemasiri of Wat Koh Kaew Tudongkhasathan, Buriram Province; Luangphor Boonpeng Kappo of Wat Pa Wiwek Tham, Khon Kaen Province; Luangphor Onsa Sukkaro of Wat Pracha Chumphon Phatthanaram, Udon Thani Province; Luangphor Rian Worrapho of Wat Aranbanphot, Nong Khai Province; Luang Phor Malai Uthayo of Wat Bang Ya Phraek, Samut Sakhon; Luang Phor Suphot Thitapho of Wat Huang Phatthana, Trat Province; and Luang Phor Boonlai Akkajitto of Wat Non Sai Thong, Amnat Charoen Province. This amulet of Luang Pu Maha Jerm from Wat Sa Mongkhon is a highly revered piece with a significant spiritual history.
Due to the fact that amulets of Buddha and amulets of monks with renowned miraculous powers for safety and invincibility are very expensive, with many costing millions baht and some hundreds of thousands, it is difficult for those with little money to acquire such amulets. But this doesn’t mean giving up hope, and one shortcut to finding amulets and sacred objects with miraculous powers for safety and invincibility is to ‘test them by shooting at them with a gun.’
For testing amulets by shooting at them with a gun, most people only test them individually, and this news is only known among amulet testers. But in Village 2, Bang Khaem Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nakhon Pathom Province, there is a group of amulet testers who gather regularly, numbering in the tens, to organize a testing ground using a fish pond behind their house, which is an open, unpopulated area. They test every week, with the motto ‘Whoever has the best, whoever has the real thing, amulets and coins of any monk with a reputation for being tough must be shot at.'”
Mr. Som Phingsikhan, village headman of Village No. 2, also known as ‘Phu Yai Nong’ (Village Headman Nong) mentioned that many Buddha amulets and sacred objects had been shot, and there were countless cases where the bullets penetrated, but there were also many cases where they did not. On one occasion, someone brought a coin of Luang Pu Maha Jerm Panyapalo, the presiding monk of Nakhon Pathom Province, for a test shot. They thought the bullet would go through, but instead, the coin, which had been placed on foam, did not fall, and the bullet did not even scratch the surface of the amulet. After leaving the testing site, the person who shot suddenly became paralyzed on one side of their body and took several days to recover. From that point on, stories began to circulate about people who tried to test the Maha Jerm coin—either the bullet didn’t penetrate, or the gun failed to fire—but the shooter always ended up experiencing some misfortune. Since then, no one has dared to test Luang Pu Maha Jerm’s coin with disrespect again.
